What’s the secret to keeping a bright and healthy smile? Is it really possible to avoid invasive dental work altogether?
At Sierra Kids Dentistry, we use preventative practices to constantly keep your child’s smile healthy. Encourage your little one to brush, floss, and visit their dentist twice yearly.
We recommend seeing Dr. Gray once every six months for a checkup and cleaning. A healthy smile is all about prevention! With pediatric dentistry, we help you avoid all the things about dentistry people hate:
- Dental pain
- Tooth fractures
- Weak teeth and tooth loss
- Invasive and costly dental procedures
We keep your family’s best interests at heart at Sierra Kids Dentistry. Let’s keep your child safe from dental decay and gum disease in the first place with diligent preventative care.
Our team will help you prevent the development of problems while treating any current problems. If you do need some dental work, we use the most conservative methods possible, watching out for your child’s comfort in the process.
What to Expect from Preventative Dentistry Appointments
You can assure your child there’s nothing to fear about a dental exam and cleaning! Our kind dentist will gently look for plaque, tartar, and tooth decay. We will check the gums for puffiness or bleeding, and we may take quick dental x-rays to see more. During your child’s cleaning, we use advanced technology to painlessly remove surface stains and bacteria buildup.
Regular dental visits make dentistry far easier for our young patients. The earlier we can detect and treat problems or potential problems, the more comfortable and affordable treatment will be.
Fun Amenities and State-of-the-Art Technology
Your child deserves an exciting environment! We offer entertainment options and fun distractions at Sierra Kids Dentistry. We also utilize innovative technology. Our technology keeps your child safe and makes procedures pain-free.
Some of the benefits of dental technology include:
- Digital x-rays eliminate excessive radiation exposure
- Appointment times are faster
- Accurate diagnoses for better results

Silver Diamine Fluoride
We’ve never met a kid who enjoys getting teeth drilled by the dentist. With Silver Diamine Fluoride, there may be an alternative for your child.
Silver Diamine Fluoride, or SDF, is an antimicrobial liquid that is brushed on the child’s tooth. SDF halts cavities in their tracks! When a tooth has a cavity, our dentist can rub SDF on the affected area in about 30 seconds–no needle, no drill, equally effective.
The main downside to SDF is the discoloration factor– it turns the brownish color of tooth decay to black. On baby teeth that will fall out and back molars that are not seen, this may not be a problem. However, some people may not want a dark spot on their visible teeth.
SDF has been available in the United States for a few years, and its popularity is spreading throughout the country. Know that it is safe for your child.
