Silver Diamine Fluoride
We’ve never met a kid who enjoys getting teeth drilled by the dentist. With Silver Diamine Fluoride, there may be an alternative for your child.
Silver Diamine Fluoride, or SDF, is an antimicrobial liquid that is brushed on the child’s tooth. SDF halts cavities in their tracks! When a tooth has a cavity, our dentist can rub SDF on the affected area in about 30 seconds–no needle, no drill, equally effective.
The main downside to SDF is the discoloration factor– it turns the brownish color of tooth decay to black. On baby teeth that will fall out and back molars that are not seen, this may not be a problem. However, some people may not want a dark spot on their visible teeth.
